Fiona Sunter & Associates – Meet the Team
We have a great team of people working in the practice, and it is our job to make sure you are treated well and enjoy coming to see us.
There are 2 HCPC registered Podiatrists in the practice – myself and Nicola, and we are brilliantly supported by Barbara and Libby who are our receptionists.
Here you will learn a bit more about us. What makes us tick and what our ideal Sunday looks like.
Meet The Podiatrists
A Bit About Fiona
I love my job and get tremendous job satisfaction from each day. I wake every morning looking forward to what the day will bring. Where else can you get a job sitting on your bottom chatting to a huge variety of people and providing them pain relief? It’s incredibly rewarding seeing someone limp into the surgery but walk out 30 minutes later with a spring in their step saying that they feel as though they are “walking on air”.
I bought the practice in September 2005 and have grown it from 2 days per week to 5 days a week. So you can see how much I love the business. I work 4 days a week, and the other 3 days I spend renovating my home, which has taken longer than we had anticipated! Chiropody or Podiatry, as it is now known, has always been a passion of mine. In fact, at the age of 13, I made the grand announcement that ‘when I grow up, I want to be a Chiropodist’. Well it took me a long time to get to this point as I followed plan B for quite a while.
I worked 15 ½ years for what was the Halifax Building Society in a variety of roles but in 1998 I was offered Voluntary Redundancy, which I gladly took. This let me revert to plan A and my passion to be a Podiatrist. I went back to college to do ‘A’ level Human Biology and I started my degree course at the University of Huddersfield in 2001. My first day at University was my youngest son’s first day at school – I am not sure who was more scared – him or me! I graduated in June 2004 with a BSc (Hons) Podiatry and an enormous grin on my face – I had done it!!
The rest as they say is history.
I am married to Hamish and we have 3 grown up sons; one has already left home, one is at University and unfortunately the eldest has failed to launch – he likes his home comforts too much!
My ideal Sunday would be waking up in our caravan, taking the dog for a long walk and then having a leisurely BBQ with family and friends around us.
I’m Nicola Kershaw, a Podiatrist and I have worked with Fiona since 2010 after I graduated from the University of Huddersfield. I originally started on one day a week, but I now work Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. I have also recently started doing every other Thursday as I also look after the Residential and Nursing Homes that we attend.
I absolutely love my job and like Fiona, this is my passion. Podiatry is something that I have always wanted to do. I have always been fascinated by feet and amazed by the fact they say, that by the age of 70, you have walked the equivalent of 4 times around the world….no wonder we can sometimes have problems! During my time at University, I also worked as a Healthcare Assistant at my local hospital.
I have been with my partner Dean for 12 years and we have 2 young girls who are still at nursery. My ‘spare time’, if you can call it that, is spent taking them to and from nursery and to various play centres near to home for ‘play dates’. In actual fact, this is also a good time for me to gather my thoughts and catch up with girlfriends. This time is also being put to good use as Dean and I are planning to get married in 2016. There is just so much organising to do, I’m glad to get back into work where I know exactly what I have got to do.

The Reception Team
I have been working with Fiona since she bought the practice in 2005 and previously for her predecessor. I had wanted to retire, but Fiona was incredibly persuasive!
I love working in the practice and seeing the patients who come regularly. I only work at the practice on Mondays organising Fiona and Nicola for the week ahead. I was delighted when Libby joined the team so we could spread the work load over the week.
My hobbies are dog walking, card making and gardening, I love going to the cinema and enjoy holidays abroad. When I retire I want to live somewhere warm, I hate being cold and wet!
I work in the Post Office at King Cross most of the week, with my husband, but I enjoy the challenge of being a receptionist for Fiona and Nicola. Although I’m not a trained receptionist or secretary I can deal with telephone calls, and very basic office chores. I am particularly good at collecting lunches and making drinks, but I am sure in time I will become more competent.
If you think we might be the right people to help you with your foot problems then please do give us a call.
Now at least you know who you’ll be talking to 😉
